Lifeskills Sarah Heinz House

LIFESKILLS

Lifeskills Empower 360 is offered in various sessions from 1st grade through 12th grade. Sessions include Cooking, Cross Stitch, and Calm Corner. Members will strengthen skills around team building, problem solving, social interaction, public speaking and much more!

Lifeskills Sarah Heinz House

AVAILABLE SESSIONS

MONDAYS

 

Cooking: FEE $60/semester

  • Mondays 6-7 PM

  • 5th-6th Grades

  • Learning from experienced chefs at Common Threads, students will explore and cook cuisine from different countries, as well as discuss the significance of food in those countries.

Empower 360

  • Mondays 7-8 PM

  • 7th-12th Grades

  • Youth researchers in the Pitt-SHH youth participatory action research collective will have the opportunity to create, develop, and execute an original social research project alongside formally trained researchers from the University of Pittsburgh. They will then use these findings to advocate for community-change by presenting their work to community leaders and stakeholders. A $400 stipend is provided for participation in the program.

Calm Corner Preps

  • Mondays 7-8 PM

  • 3rd-4th Grades

  • Introducing our innovative Emotional Regulation Program for elementary school students at Sarah Heinz House. Designed to nurture social emotional intelligence from a young age, our program explores ways to talk about social and emotional health in a relaxed and calm setting. We will talk about these things using games and role play and generally having fun! This class is offered at no charge to our members!

TUESDAYS

 

Cross Stitch: FEE $25/semester

  • Tuesdays 6-7 PM

  • 1st-12th Grades

  • Learn basic stitching techniques, create colorful patterns, and complete your very own project to take home. This class will spark your creativity and develop your crafting skills.

Prep Empower 360

  • Tuesdays 7-8 PM

  • 3rd-4th Grades

  • Members will embody the core values of Sarah Heinz House like respect, dignity, responsibility, character, and service. They will participate in fun activities that help them build social skills, community, and teamwork. This class is offered at no charge to members!

Calm Corner Juniors

  • Tuesdays 8-9 PM

  • 3rd-4th Grades

Torch Club: 

  • Wednesdays 6-7 PM

  • 5th-8th Grades

  • Torch Club is Boys and Girls Club of America's leadership program for members in 5th-8th grade. The program focuses on youth leadership and service, through completing projects that help serve their community. Members must complete an application and interview to join. Interested members must contact Hannah Komita for the application and interview process.

Preschool Literacy 2: 

  • Wednesdays 6-7 PM

  • Preschool

  • Members will engage in extra literacy practice to enhance pre-existing skills while also gaining new knowledge about literacy. They will engage in learning games, activities, read-alouds, and more. This class is offered at no charge to members!

Keystone Club: 

  • Wednesdays 7-8 PM

  • 9th-12th Grades

  • Keystone Club is Boys and Girls Club of America's premiere teen character and leadership program. The program helps to develop good character and positive leadership skills for members in 9th-12th grade. Teens learn the value of good citizenship and community service and create projects in four key areas: community service, academic success, career preparation and teen outreach. Members must complete an application and interview to join. Interested members must contact Hannah Komita for the application and interview process.

Junior Empower 360: 

  • Wednesdays 7-8 PM

  • 5th-6th Grades

  • Members will embody the core values of Sarah Heinz House like respect, dignity, responsibility, character, and service . They will participate in fun activities that help them build social skills, community, and teamwork. This class is offered at no charge to members!
